Grillet Family UK web site.

This website is for English speaking members of the Grillet family.

The Grillet family name is found all over the world, but is not very common, and its likely we are all related. If you are related, let me know.

The word "grillet" is french for the iron ring worn on the arm of someone who is hunting with a hawk (over a leather arm cover), for the hawk to grip. The family originated in France, in the Jura region, close to Switzerland. There are at least three different times at which the family has crossed from France to England. There are also several different threads that have travelled to the USA, and some in South America and the West Indies.

"grillet" means "grilled" in most scandinavian languages, and also a kind of grill pan. This is not related to the family name.

Currently, quite a few members of the family are employed in computing. We started a long time ago! In 1678, Pierre Grillet, a clockmaker, made this machine by combining Pascal's calculator with Napier's bones (logarithms).
